Brand scored 15 points in the third quarter alone.

Elton Brand turned in a dominant performance as the Clippers took control in the final minute for a 102-97 victory at Washington on Wednesday to improve to 4-1. Brand scored a game-high 31 points on 14-of-18 shooting and also pulled down 13 rebounds. Cuttino Mobley gave Los Angeles the lead for good on a layup with 36 seconds to play and scored 15. Corey Maggette turned in a strong performance in his first game of the season, scoring 20.

Despite Speedy Claxton's best efforts and a strong fourth quarter, New Orleans/Oklahoma City could not overcome the Magic on Wednesday night, losing 88-83. Claxton came off the bench and scored 24 points and dished out six assists for the Hornets, who host the Mavericks on Saturday

Kobe Bryant scored 18 of his 28 in the first half and the score was tied at the break, but a slow second half cost the Lakers in an 88-74 road loss to Minnesota on Wednesday. Lamar Odom fouled out after scoring 15 points, and Kwame Brown tallied a double-double in defeat.

With the Nuggets clinging to a one-point lead after three quarters, Marcus Camby stepped up in the fourth, scoring 10 of his team-high 20 points, and led Denver to a 107-91 win over the Kings. Carmelo Anthony also chipped in 18 points and 8 boards for Denver.

Wade, Williams’ Late Shooting Lift Heat

Wade led the Heat over the Rockets on Thursday.

Despite an outstanding game from Yao Ming, the Houston Rockets fell 88-84 Thursday to the Miami Heat at American Airlines Arena. Houston falls to 1-3 on the season while Miami improves to 3-3.

Both teams were without key players Thursday as Miami was without Shaquille O"Neal and Houston was without Tracy McGrady. Yao Ming led the Rockets with 24 points and 14 rebounds while the Heat relied on Dwyane Wade who scored a game-high 25 points in the win.
